Holdsworth & Inkwell established The Wayfinder Foundation in 2015 as an independent public charity organized under California law, built to outlast any single client engagement or partner tenure. The Foundation carries its own mission, its own governance, and its own decade of work. The firm founded it and continues to support it, but the Foundation stands as a distinct institution, not a marketing extension of the firm's brand. Its focus sits close to the firm's own practice: access to justice, civil legal aid, support for self-represented litigants, and plain-language legal education. Mission
Navigating the System Without a Lawyer
The Wayfinder Foundation supports programs that help Californians navigate the civil legal system without representation. Funding focuses on three areas: court navigator programs that assist self-represented litigants in family, housing, and small claims courts; plain-language legal education materials that translate procedural complexity into accessible guidance; and direct grants to community legal clinics serving underserved populations. The Foundation operates on the principle that procedural complexity should not determine the outcome of a legal matter. Where representation is unavailable, navigation tools and educational resources can substantially level the playing field. Since 2015, the Foundation has supported organizations across California, with particular emphasis on the Central Valley and Sacramento region where the need is most acute.
